There were at one time, but it was requested that they be removed. You have to register and download the application. A fairly simple task. You will also need to download the latest version of the ATCSMon program which can be found here. Please note that you must join this yahoo group in order to.

Con If you have an older model with the Motorola chip, you're out of luck. If you have a newer Mac which employs the Intel chip set, purchase a software copy of 'Parallels,' and then after installation install a copy of Windows 7 on your Mac. However have found as a purist, much easier to purchase a net book or a recent off-lease used laptop for use on ATCS. Keep the Mac pure, don't despoil it with the Microsoft OS. Edited 1 time(s).
Last edit at 11/28/10 09:42 by Thumper. The 'tablet' devices that are now coming onto the market, especially the Apple iPad, would in my view make the perfect host for ATCS in the field. With its touch screen ease and other functions such as quickly zooming in on a particular portion of a display it would be perfect. What's more is that it's relatively small, light-weight and easy to carry into the field, i.e., would easily slip into a camera bag. Sure would be nice if some computer saavy folks out there would take up the task of making ATCS directly compatible with the iPad OS.:). Yeah, I'm stuck in #2 and #3 in the instructions (the EZ ones) on the ATCS yahoo page to download packets, then move them. Gotta be an easier way. Well, I guess web is easier, considering what you have to do to wire scanners into a portable laptop setup. The concept of seeing the DS screen definately appeals to me, but installing and understanding are beyond my tech patience.

I'm one of those guys who has used a VPN to connect my Droid 2 to my home computer. There's a variety of programs out there - many of them free. Personally, I use a program called 'TightVNC' on my PC and a similar VNC program on my Droid 2. This allows me to see (and even manipulate) whatever is on my home computer's screen.
I'll simply load up ATCSmon before I leave to go railfanning, and connect via my phone once I'm out 'in the field.' Luckily, the area I usually railfan has a pretty good collection of servers, so I have a very clear picture of what is coming my way. I'm here to tell you. You get the ATCS monitor screen picking up while you're out railfanning, so you're watching from the field, and about the only thing you need a scanner for is to know what train symbol is going. I can sit there, and listen to railfans talk about going home because it's so slow, and then I laugh because there's a flood of 3 or 4 trains headed my way - and I know right where they are, thanks to ATCS.
